In-situ neutron diffraction study of wrought and selective laser melted maraging stainless steels

چکیده

Bulk phase transformations and dislocation density were monitored in a maraging stainless steel on bulk level using in-situ neutron diffraction up to 1340 °C, i.e. 30 °C below the melting temperature. Three materials with different initial microstructure and/or composition studied: wrought, as-built SLM-ed (selective laser melted) re-austenitized SLM-ed. In contrast wrought martensitic steel, was essentially ferritic. However, recovered usual microstructure. A ?-ferritic domain above 1200 confirmed for all studied. amount of ?-ferrite at point strongly depends upon composition. Additionally, it shown that (ferritic or martensitic) has little no influence re-austenization. Dislocation densities estimated from peak broadening. The ferritic SLM material contains high (~4 × 1014 m?2), which is however far less than (~5 1015 m?2). Dislocations start annihilate 550 / 600 studied, but measurable ~1013 m?2 still observed 950 1000 °C.

Mechanical properties and microstructural characterization of selective laser melted 17-4 PH stainless steel

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to understand the effect of four different factors: building orientation, heat treatment (solution annealing and aging), thermal history and process parameters on the mechanical properties and microstructural features of 17-4 precipitation hardening (PH) stainless steel (SS) parts produced using selective laser melting (SLM). Design/methodology/approach – ...

On the Anisotropic Mechanical Properties of Selective Laser-Melted Stainless Steel

The thorough description of the peculiarities of additively manufactured (AM) structures represents a current challenge for aspiring freeform fabrication methods, such as selective laser melting (SLM). These methods have an immense advantage in the fast fabrication (no special tooling or moulds required) of components, geometrical flexibility in their design, and efficiency when only small quan...

Laser-assisted microscale deformation of stainless steels and ceramics

Chie C. Poon Andrew C. Tam IBM Almaden Research Center 650 Harry Road San Jose, California 95120 Abstract. We investigate deformation of stainless steel and ceramic specimens with a precision of the order of tens of nanometers using a pulsed laser beam. Such a technique is useful, for example, in a process of removing distortions on magnetic head components to achieve a better contact between t...
